All About Kindergarten
Class Times:
1. Class begins at 8:40 and ends at 3:10.
2. If you bring your child to school before 8:20, he/she will have to wait in the hall by the office until the bell rings at 8:20.
3. At dismissal, if your child is usually a bus student and you plan to pick him/her up at school, please send a note. Otherwise, I will have to put him/her on the bus.
4. If your child is absent from school, please send an excuse upon his/her return.
Each Child Will Need:
1. A backpack to carry things to and from school.
2. An oversized T-shirt with your child's name on it. This will be used as a paint shirt. Please make sure your child is able to put it on and take it off without help. The bigger the better!
3. One box of tissues ~ I will keep a box handy at all times for your child to use whenever he/she needs one. If your child contributes several boxes, it will really help out.
4. An empty pencil box to keep crayons and pencils in.
5. A rest mat (blue and red folded mats can be purchased at Wal-mart).
Snacktime
Kindergarteners will be having a morning snack. Milk for this snacktime must be purchased by you because our district does not have a free milk program. The cost of the milk is $9.00/month. Once a month, I will be sending the milk envelope home. Please return it with the $9.00 as soon as possible.
We usually have a little snack with our milk. It has worked out quite well in the past to ask the children to take turns (about once a month) bringing something to share with the other children. Please try to send in a healthy snack (ex. crackers, cheese, vegetables, yogurt, fruit). A snack calendar will be sent home monthly letting you know which day your child is to bring in snack.
Show-n-Tell
1. This year, we will be having "Leader Show and Tell." On the day your child is the leader, (the day he/she is responsible for snack) he/she can bring an item to share with the others. It can be anything of interest: a special picture, a toy, a rock, or a stuffed animal. It could be something he/she has made or anything to do with a unit we are studying. You can remind your child by looking at the snack calendar.
2. Your child is welcome to bring a toy or game any day he wishes. The toy should be something he/she is willing to share or let others try. This activity develops many good social skills and an appreciation of others. If your child has a special toy he/she does not want broken, please do not send that toy to school.
Cafeteria
A computerized system has been implemented in the cafeteria. We will be sending envelopes for you to place money in. You may send money back to school for purchasing meals for breakfast, lunch, or lunch milk. You may pay for a week, a month, or whatever amount of time you desire. The money goes straight to the cafeteria and they will have a record of your amount stored in the computer. That money will be available for your child to eat any day he/she pleases. Your child will have to punch in his/her own special 2 digit I.D. number.
Swimming
We have a regular swimming class in kindergarten. Classes will be held weekly.
Things your child will need include:
1. A waterproof bag to carry things in. (Not a backpack.)
2. A towel
3. A swimming suit or trunks.
4. A small comb or brush
5. Watershoes
*Please talk to your child about organizational skills in the locker room. I'm sure Mr. Swatsworth will appreciate it. We want everyone to come back to class dressed as they went... and not forgetting anything! Thanks, and bear with us on this exciting journey!
Outside Activities
Your child will be participating in many outdoor activities. There will be many days that we will be outside for fun or study. Please dress your child in clothing appropriate for those activities.
