Welcome

Dear Students and Families:

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year.  I am very excited to meet each one of you!  There are lots of fun and exciting activities planned this year.

On the first day of school, your child will be bringing home a folder with some important papers for you to fill out and return.  Please make sure to check the folder.  I will also be sending a copy of what personal items your child will need for school and a schedule of our special classes.  Please post these somewhere for your convenience.

General Information

In first grade, we do have a DAILY snack break in the mid-morning.

Your child will be responsible for bringing their own individual healthy snack.

Your child will be given a 6 digit I.D. number to memorize for the use of our computerized cafeteria system.   This number will also be used as a log-in when we are using specific computer programs during lab time.  (The log-in # keeps track of each individual student's assignments and progress.)  Please help your child to learn their number as quickly as possible.  I will give your child a name tag on the first day of school.  The name tag will have your child's I.D. # on the back.  Your child will use this name tag until they have successfully memorized their #.

About First Grade

Dear Families:

Your child has successfully completed their kindergarten year and is now ready to dive into first grade!

We will begin our Language Arts (reading/writing) with a brief review of what your child learned in kindergarten.

Math will also begin as a review and move into patterns and then basic addition and subtraction.

We cover a variety of subjects for the social studies, science and health curriculum.  The students will be actively involved in hands-on learning activities throughout the year.

Your child will have periodic homework assignments.  Each student will be given a pocket folder to take to and from school on a daily basis.  Please check your child's folder each day and remember to send it back for the following day.  If your child has a homework assignment, it will be clearly marked with "H.W."  First grade does not assign a huge amount of homework, however, we do expect assignments to be completed and returned when requested.  Homework is meant to be a school to home connection for you as the parent to know what your child is learning as well as helping your child to expand their learning and gain some independence.
